Reach Out TodayWhat is EMDR Therapy and how it can heal past traumas
Our EMDR online therapy is designed to alleviate the distress and emotional impact associated with past traumatic or highly disturbing events
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is an evidence-based trauma treatment initially developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s.
EMDR therapy is designed to alleviate the distress and emotional impact associated with past traumatic or highly disturbing events by “processing” the memories of these events. EMDR utilizes the client's own back and forth rhythmic eye movements (called bilateral stimulation) or other forms of bilateral stimulation (e.g., auditory tones) as a mechanism for processing past traumatic events which are still having a cognitive and emotional impact in the presence.
EMDR has been shown to expedite the recovery process from psychological trauma compared to traditional therapy methods, offering faster relief from symptoms. Since its inception, EMDR is now also utilized for other disorders or psychological challenges such as depression, anxiety, phobias, and addiction.

Yatra's EMDR Online Therapy
How Yatra's EMDR Online Therapy Works
Simply put, online EMDR is an online, digital adaptation of EMDR facilitated through a secure online platform developed specifically for EMDR. The efficacy of online EMDR, while contingent on various factors, including the individual’s response to the treatment, has been supported by numerous studies, making it a viable option for those seeking online trauma therapy. For more information on the EMDR platform we at Yatra use for our EMDR virtual sessions, please see Bilateral Base.
How many virtual EMDR sessions will I need?
The time duration of needed therapy is unique to each individual. For some people, a few sessions is all it takes (e.g., for single trauma incidents such as a car accident).
For others with more complex trauma (e.g., months or years of childhood abuse or neglect), healing these past traumas may take the span of several months or more.
The length of time in therapy also depends on how many virtual EMDR sessions you can attend per week.
How to know if you’re ready for EMDR Online Therapy.
If you’re experiencing persistent anxiety, flashbacks, or nightmares related to past trauma, it could be a sign.
Other indicators include feeling stuck in negative thought patterns, having intense emotional reactions to reminders of the past, or struggling with low self-esteem.
EMDR is designed to help process these distressing experiences and reduce their impact on your daily life.
The Therapeutic Relationship & Setting the Groundwork for Trauma Processing.
The therapeutic relationship is quintessential in therapy. The therapeutic relationship embodies the alliance between the therapist and the client—a relationship of trust, empathy and positive regard (on the part of the therapist), and mutual respect.
This relationship creates the necessary environment in which your healing and transformation can occur.
Our initial sessions will be an opportunity to begin to build this foundational relationship.
Additionally, during the initial remote EMDR therapy sessions, your therapist will obtain your background information (history) which will be used to develop an agreed upon treatment plan.
These initial sessions will also involve some education about EMDR, and will entail providing you with resources for emotional stabilization, setting the groundwork for processing past traumatic events.
What kind of technology will I need for my EMDR online therapy sessions?
You will need to have:
- A desktop computer, laptop, or tablet with speakers and/or headphones.
- A large enough screen to enable your eyes to move across a plane of motion.
- A reliable internet connection.
- A private, quiet space free of distractions and interruptions.
How long does a remote therapy session last?
Our remote EMDR therapy sessions are 50 minutes in duration unless otherwise agreed with your therapist.
